TOEIC Newsletter #13 — Listening Audio

Part 3 — Conversations

Questions 8–10 · Authentic TOEIC-style pace with pauses between questions.

Segment 1 of 210%
Directions: You will hear some conversations between two people. You will be asked to answer three questions about what the speakers say in each conversation. Select the best response to each question. The conversations will be spoken only once and will not be printed in your test book.
Questions eight through ten refer to the following conversation.
Man: Hi Sandra, did you get a chance to review the catering proposal for the staff retreat?
Woman: I did, but I noticed the per-person cost went up by fifteen percent since last year. That wasn't in the original budget.
Man: I know. The vendor raised their prices because of the new minimum-wage increase. I've already asked two other companies for quotes.
Woman: Good. Could you send me their estimates by Wednesday? I’d like to compare them before I present the options to the department head on Thursday.
Number eight. What is the woman concerned about?
A. The retreat has been cancelled.
B. The catering cost has increased.
C. The vendor delivered the wrong food.
D. The staff retreat date was changed.
Number nine. Why did the vendor raise its prices?
A. Because of a new minimum-wage increase.
B. Because the retreat location changed.
C. Because the company ordered more food.
D. Because the vendor lost a contract.
Number ten. What does the woman ask the man to do?
A. Cancel the staff retreat.
B. Present the options to the department head.
C. Send her the new estimates by Wednesday.
D. Call the original vendor.
How to use: Press Play and listen as you would in the real TOEIC Listening test — the audio is spoken once, with authentic pacing and pauses between questions. Try to answer each question in your test book before the next one begins. The audio is generated on your device using clear text-to-speech, so it works offline once the page is loaded.
